Kent County Council (KCC) is committed to helping businesses reduce their impact on the environment. We are lead partners in the South East Business Carbon Hub, a free service for small and medium-sized companies that advises them on;
• ways to cut costs by using resources more efficiently,
• complying with environmental legislation, and
• managing carbon emissions.
This project is part financed by the South East ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13, with the aim of promoting sustainable production and consumption whilst helping to reduce the South East ecological footprint.
KCC’s new Environment Strategy sets out our aims for a high-quality Kent environment, that is low carbon and resilient to climate change.
KCC works to regenerate Kent , provides business support and conducts campaigns on behalf of Kent’s business with the Government.
Using less water and energy, and throwing away less is good for the environment and for business - it saves money and customers like it. KCC and the South East ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007 - 2013 are delighted to sponsor this award and celebrate forward-looking companies. Not only are they 'green', they contribute towards making Kent a great place to live and work.

Southern Water supplies fresh, quality drinking water to more than one million households and treats and recycles wastewater from nearly two million households across Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The company is committed to the environment and actively promotes the environment in a number of ways.
• Responsible abstraction of water from rivers and underground aquifers
• Ensuring the quality of wastewater recycled to rivers and the sea
• Protecting wildlife and habitats on our land
• Supporting wildlife projects across the company’s operating area
We are installing water meters for our customers across the South East between 2010 and 2015. Having a water meter means you only pay for what you use. We and the overwhelming majority of our customers believe that metering is the fairest way to pay for water. It is also important for the environment because people on a meter tend to use 10 percent less water.
Southern Water is pleased to be supporting the KEiBA 2012. We are keen to support the business community in Kent and showcase their commitment to the environment.
As the first large water company in the UK to embark on a universal metering campaign, we are leading the way in water efficiency. We are committed to sustainable management of the environment and are keen to recognise those businesses who excel in this field

EMC comprises a board-level team of 20 individuals with commercial experience across a wide range of sectors and disciplines.
We are typically engaged by business owners to take responsibility for one-off projects or to fulfil management roles where there is no in-house resource or need for a full-time, permanent position. We mainly work with ambitious growing businesses and, since 1989, have helped many owner/directors to plan and execute a successful exit, creating a number of millionaires en route.
Our economic future is completely dependent on the entrepreneurial skills and vision of the next generation. At the same time we risk losing that entrepreneurial spark by sending too many people to University. So it is essential that we recognise and encourage budding talent and are delighted to help champion young entrepreneurs through this Award.

A dynamic, market-driven law firm with a long history in Kent, our success as professional advisers depends on helping our clients to create value – whether in their personal or business life.
We can only achieve that by understanding what is really important to them, and our starting point is to put our clients’ needs at the heart of what we do, engage our own people and bring our core values to life, leading to greater enjoyment at work. We aim to be the law firm our clients would design for themselves.
Most organisations recognise the direct link between people engagement and business success; we have designed and implemented our own people engagement plan and will be looking closely to see how the Best Employer entrants are engaging their own staff to drive the performance of their businesses.
As businesses in Kent continue to fight their way through these times of continued economic uncertainty where margins are constantly squeezed, it is clear that the businesses that succeed are those that have a fully engaged and highly motivated workforce. All employers - large and small - talk about the importance of their people, but this is a chance to prove that you really are one of Kent's employers of choice.
